Multi-Modal Booking Platform
End-to-end travel & municipal booking system for buses, flights, hotels, and government reservations with real-time availability, custom seat layouts, and 3 integrated payment gateways.
Overview
A single MERN codebase powering reservations across four very different domains — buses, flights, hotels, and municipal services — each with its own inventory model, pricing rules, and booking flow, unified under one admin and payment layer.
The Challenge
Every booking vertical had a different shape of availability: seats on a bus, cabins on a flight, room-nights for a hotel, time slots for a municipal service. The system needed one data model and one checkout flow flexible enough to serve all four without turning into four separate apps.
Approach
Designed a shared MongoDB schema for inventory and availability that could represent seats, rooms, and time slots without special-casing each vertical
Built a configurable seat/slot layout engine so each booking type renders its own selection UI from the same underlying component
Integrated PhonePe, CCAvenue, and Stripe behind a single payment abstraction, with full error handling, retry logic, and reconciliation support
Shipped role-based admin and agent portals with granular access controls for inventory management, manual bookings, and reporting
Used AWS S3 for all media assets — hotel photos, route maps, and generated tickets/receipts
Owned the platform end-to-end from system design through production deployment, shipping a single system that replaced what would otherwise have been four separate booking products — with three payment gateways live in production.
